Great Books

The Great Books course is an interactive group discussion of selected short stories. Each story's discussion is normally led by a volunteer member of the class, following the "Shared Inquiry Method" promulgated by The Great Books Foundation. Under the Shared Inquiry Method, the leader poses interpretive questions which class members then answer based upon evidence that they find in the text. The objectives for this course are to increase not only our understanding of the stories and their authors, but to examine our own values and beliefs, and those of other class members. ln addition to being interesting, this process increases the sense of community, which many of us value. ln the Fall of 2026 we'll use the anthology The Story and its Writer, 10th edition.
