Who hasn't wondered why Wales, the land of dragons, was conquered by England but Scotland was not? Let's take a trip to the lands beyond the River Wye and find out. From King Arthur's Merlin to the first English Prince of Wales, the history of Cymru (pronounced kum-ree) has been a vital part of Great Britain's heritage. Wales is called "the land of castles" because it has the highest concentration of castles per square mile of any country in Europe, with over 600 structures recorded. It's also referred to as the land of dragons because the Red Dragon (Y Ddraig Goch) is the national symbol, featured on its flag and deeply rooted in Welsh mythology, history, and folklore.

In this course we will highlight the relevant history and visit some of the UK's most fascinating castles and beautiful gardens.
