This class explores six laugh-out-loud films from Harold Lloyd to Woody Allen. After all, with things as they are, a good laugh is priceless. We'll see the films and discuss: Are these films dated? (No, not according to your instructor.) Are they extremely satirical? (Yes!) Do you find them hilarious and if yes, what makes them so? Lastly, we'll consider whether these films differ from comedies being made today-a comparison which will broaden our understanding of film comedies past and present. The laughter is on the house.

Peter Silverglate

Peter Silverglate PhD, received his BS in Physics and Mathematics from S.U.N.Y. at Stony Brook. MS and PhD in Astronomy from Cornell University. He had a forty year career in the aerospace industry at Perkin-Elmer, Hughes Aircraft, Raytheon, Johns Hopkins APL, and Goddard Space Flight Center.
